PILOT PROJECT “SAAve Paper!”
"SAAve Paper" is a project that originates from a current necessity: the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs, which were established by the United Nations in 2015, have a very important purpose: organized entities must favor sustainability, i.e. achieve sustainable goals related to the social, economic and environmental scenarios, but, first of all, it is up to individuals to behave responsibly with regard to these impacts, in particular the social and environmental ones.
In this regard, with a perspective on the environmental impact, the Presidents of the degree courses in Business Administration, Business and Management, and Management dell'Informazione e della Comuicazione Aziendale managed by SAA School of Management together with the Board of the Department of Management - University of Turin, came up with a project that could actually help in this regard.
SAAve Paper aims at reducing the production and consequently the use of paper, a paper that has always been perceived as essential by students.
Which paper? The one that comes from the slides provided by professors in class and that allow students to follow the topics more clearly, take notes, study and, of course, make their personal conceptual maps. Can this paper be replaced by tablets? Would students appreciate this new device?
This need led to the development of a pilot project named 'SAAve Paper' related to the issue of environmental sustainability and involving a sample of students.
In A.Y. 2021-2022, we involved 100 students from the first years of the degrees in Business & Management (40), Business Administration (20), Management dell'Informazione e della Comunicazione Aziendale (40) in a test consisting in the distribution of Samsung Galaxy tablets intended to replace the paper printout of the slides slides provided by professors (for all years of the course).
The students who signed up for this pilot project were actively involved not only in the replacement of the paper with the device, but also with an active participation through focus groups and questionnaires to map their perceptions. It is certainly an efficient way to understand whether projects of this kind can really find their application in our courses on a more widespread basis, and for sure it is a way to increase collaboration between students and teachers at a time when we can finally really focus on relationships.
